Dr. O'Leary

Dr. O’Leary received his medical degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC and at graduation was awarded the Stacy L. Rollins, Jr., MD Outstanding Student of Neurosurgery. He also completed a doctorate in organic chemistry at the Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ under the mentorship of Robert L. Augustine in organo-metallic catalysis.

He completed his residency in neurological surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. This included an internship in general surgery and a chief resident year in neurosurgery awarded with distinction. He completed a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery under the guidance of Roy A. E. Bakay, MD, at Rush University Medical Center, and a fellowship in peripheral nerve surgery under the guidance of David Kline, MD, at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine at New Orleans.

He is board certified in all aspects of neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Currently on staff at Northwest Community Hospital, he is the Medical Director of Neuroscience Services.

Dr. O’Leary’s areas of specialization include the diagnosis and treatment of complex spine and peripheral nerve problems including tumors. He treats patients with disorders requiring stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, including neuromodulation and restorative neurosurgery and image-guided neurosurgery such as gamma knife and cyber knife surgery. He has an interest in neurotrauma, including spine, and is the principal site investigator at Lutheran General Hospital for the SyNAPSe trial. This is a global phase 3 study of progesterone in severe traumatic brain injury. Concussion and mild traumatic brain injury is also an interest and he is one of the founding members of the Midwest Center for Concussion Care (www.midwestconcussion.com).

Dr. O’Leary sees patients in his Arlington Heights office—which has free parking (880 W Central Road, Suite 4100, Arlington Heights, IL 60005).  He believes in a partnership between the doctor and patient with an emphasis on open communication and education to achieve the best outcomes for each individual’s health. He accepts all major insurance plans as well as worker’s compensation with training in impairment evaluation. Appointments are available upon request.
